A new national pathway to help clinicians to better diagnose and care for patients with suspected Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES) has just been launched.
CES is a serious neurological condition which can lead to life changing injuries.
The new pathway sets out clear guidance on when urgent referrals should be made and the timescales for investigations, an example being if a patient is suspected of CES and referred for an MRI, under the pathway the MRI should be done as soon as possible and certainly within four hours of the request.
