In Memory of David Bain

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that David Bain passed away overnight on Thursday 6th June 2024.

David was a well-known and equally well-respected member of the Bristol legal community for very many years.

He began his legal career with Bristol firm Meade King where he did his Articles of Clerkship in the 1970s before moving to Fussell Wright where he undertook general contentious, litigation work. He was a popular advocate in both the Magistrates and County Courts where he was renowned for his skill as well as his courtesy and easy manner.

Following his move to John Hodge Solicitors he specialised in Family Law, an area that suited his personal skills, offering sound, sympathetic and practical advice in a constructive and non-confrontational way.

David joined us in early 2010 and very quickly became a popular friend, colleague, and member of our office in Bristol and the wider Family Law team.

David thoroughly enjoyed life. In his bachelor days he was seen on the motor racing circuit racing MG sports cars. He cycled to work almost every day, despite inclement weather. He had a regular routine of tennis on Monday evenings and was a member of Clifton Tennis Club for very many years. Coffee at 11am, walks with colleagues at lunchtime, office Pilates were as regular as clockwork together with cycling and country dancing on Saturdays.

David was equally well known in the hockey world playing for West Gloucestershire Hockey Club since the 1970s, and most recently representing England in Masters Hockey in European tournaments.

David always kept fit. In April he enjoyed a holiday with his wife Tacey, walking the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain. Upon his return David fell unexpectedly ill and tests revealed a tumour on his pancreas. The disease showed no mercy and David entered St Peter’s Hospice in late May where he was comfortable both physically and mentally.
David died very peacefully surrounded by his wife Tacey and his family. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family at this very sad time.

He was a much-loved friend and colleague. We will all miss him terribly.
